Jobi McAnuff has shared that he is ‘surprised’ that Leeds United and Leicester City transfer target Joel Piroe is still at Swansea City.

The EFL expert and former forward added that Premier League duo, Leeds United and Leicester City, want to sign the 23-year-old, who was brought in by Swansea for a ‘snip’ of £1 million from PSV.

Last season, Piroe scored 22 goals and supplied six assists from his 45 Championship games – Swans boss, Russell Martin, warned that his sought-after players ‘won’t leave on the cheap’.

Those comments from Martin were made a number of months ago when interest was hotting up on some of his top talents, including Piroe and the recently-departed, Flynn Downes.

The midfielder made a £12 million move to West Ham United this summer (Sky Sports) – and whilst goals add more value to a player, it perhaps indicates that a few more million will need to be added for Piroe’s talents.

Nonetheless, this is what McAnuff had to say about the future of Piroe, who is yet to get off the mark in England’s second tier this season, as he told Sky Sports’ Transfer Show.

“There are some there I am quite surprised are still in the Championship,” said McAnuff. “The one that really stands out is Joel Piroe from Swansea City.

“They purchased him for a snip at £1 million from PSV. I know they don’t want to sell him. He has two years left on his contract, but he scored 22 league goals and six assists last season. Left-footed. Can play on the right. I like him down the middle.

LEEDS NEED TO ADD TO THEIR FIREPOWER

The new Premier League season has started in a bright fashion for Leeds and Jesse Marsch because they came from behind to beat Wolves 2-1 over the weekend.

With Raphinha out of the door, new boy Brenden Aaronson stepped up on his Premier League debut to work his magic in the middle of the park.

Now, the American is a very different player to Raphinha, but that added quality, spark, flair and depth was needed for the Yorkshire club.

But even with Aaronson’s addition, more new faces need to be added if Marsch is able to cope with the robust, hard-hitting and possibly difficult season that awaits them.
