Leeds United are reportedly keen on Spanish midfielder Fran Merida.
Reports from the Daily Mail earlier this week claimed that Leeds United are interested in signing Osasuna midfielder Fran Merida – but questions would have to be asked over whether he’s the right man for the Whites.
Leeds have enjoyed a strong start to the season, losing just twice in the first 10 league games of the season, with Thomas Christiansen already setting Leeds up for a promotion push.
Despite a busy summer of bringing in new signings to boost his squad, Christiansen and Leeds are already being linked with January additions.
The Daily Mail report that Leeds want to bring former Arsenal midfielder Fran Merida back to England, with the 27-year-old currently playing in native Spain with Osasuna.
Merida was always praised for his technical ability at Barcelona and Arsenal, but whether Leeds really need another playmaking midfielder is another matter.
Christiansen already has ball players such as Samu Saiz and Pablo Hernandez in attacking midfield, and whilst Merida could play deeper, Christiansen may in fact need a different type of midfielder.
Leeds were physically outmatched in the 3-1 defeat, and fans have called for a physically dominant midfielder to arrive in order to protect the back four and get stuck in in the middle of the park.
Merida isn’t that kind of player, and whilst Leeds have moved on from Liam Bridcutt, bringing a player with that same bite, but with even more capacity to dominate midfielder, could be a smarter move in January.
