Leeds United are reportedly showing interest in Wolves attacker Hwang Hee-chan in a move that would see Jesse Marsch reunite with the South Korea star – a player Erling Haaland once branded as “brilliant” and “absolutely crazy”.
Hwang, 26, joined Wolves from RB Leipzig last summer initially on loan. In January 2022, that move became permanent for a fee of £14million. He impressed in his first season, even if he did only score five goals in 31 appearances.
The South Korea international is renowned for his work rate and ability in the final third. He had a hand in 74 goals in 126 appearances for Salzburg – where he worked under Marsch during the 2019-20 season. It was his best campaign.
In that season, he scored 16 goals and laid on 22 assists in 40 games. A mind-blowing 38 goal involvements. It saw Salzburg sell him to Leipzig, where Marsch then briefly reunited with him – before he went on loan to Wolves.

Now, a third spell with Marsch could materialise. Another old colleague in Haaland is a big fan. The Leeds-born star once said of Hwang after a win over Liverpool: “Absolutely crazy – he was brilliant today. So important to the team.”
Leeds interest in Hwang: Haaland branded player ‘crazy’
Hwang would be the ideal addition up top for Leeds. With Patrick Bamford injured again, it is clear the Whites need a striker that can cover the England international when he is sidelined. Joe Gelhardt is excellent, but still only young.
Signing an out-and-out no.9 would only hamper Gelhardt’s progression. So, Leeds need a striker that can also operate out wide and as a 10. A good player with a good attitude, given he might warm the substitutes bench at times.
Clearly, Hwang has that in abundance. A player that has been in and out at Wolves. Given the best form of his career came under Marsch, he would surely jump at the chance to reunite with the Leeds gaffer. A week to get a deal done.
