As Liverpool demolished Leeds United 6-1 on Monday, Jamie Carragher reserved special praise for Curtis Jones after his majestic assist for Diogo Jota.

The £47,000-a-week (Salary Sport) man produced a stunning pass for the Portuguese international, who capitalised on Illan Meslier rushing out far too early to add to the Reds’ flurry of goals.

Jamie Carragher was taken aback by just how exceptional the assist well and truly was from Curtis Jones, as Liverpool looked back at their very best against Leeds United.

What Jamie Carragher said about Curtis Jones as Liverpool beat Leeds

The youngster has had a tough time with injuries since breaking through into his boyhood club’s first-team.

While there has never been a question mark on the potential Jones possesses, the same cannot be said about his availability, alongside the fact that he is simply a raw prospect so far.

However, it seemed like Curtis Jones had a point to prove in a Liverpool shirt against Leeds, with Jamie Carragher lauding the moment of magic he produced.

“Brilliant from Curtis Jones! [Diogo] Jota’s got a goal & an assist, never saw that coming after his first 30 mins”, he tweeted.

In the past, Jurgen Klopp’s men could perhaps get away with not fielding an actual creative midfielder, as the iconic Salah-Firmino-Mane front three could all produce a boatload of chances for each other.

But as Roberto Firmino has declined and Sadio Mane has left Anfield, the need for a creator apart from Trent Alexander-Arnold has become imperative.

Against Leeds, Curtis Jones proved that he has a top final ball in his locker, which may have stunned Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, due to his side’s absence of a player that can produce such moments.

As the season is set to come to an end and even next campaign, the goal should be to hand Jones an even bigger role to display his talent.
