Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen is getting a bit of credit for one decision on Saturday, but should he?

Leeds United slumped to a third successive Championship defeat on Saturday by losing 1-0 to Reading at Elland Road.
Positives were few and far between but the performance of goalkeeper Andy Lonergan is one of them. The ex-Wolves stopper displaced Felix Wiedwald in the first XI and pulled off a couple of excellent saves when the score was 0-0.

On the surface it would seem like head coach Thomas Christiansen deserves a bit of credit for finally removing the German, but the truth is that it doesn’t make up for his error in the summer.
Had Christiansen started the season with Rob Green as his number one then there is every chance that he’d be replicating his excellent performances from last season and keeping Wiedwald confined to the bench.

Instead, the 44-year-old boss put blind faith in Wiedwald – signed by Director of Football Victor Orta – in a decision which prompted Green to look elsewhere, before Premier League side Huddersfield Town snapped him up.
It looked a dodgy decision at the time based on how consistent Green was last season, but it looks a major gaffe now and playing Lonergan ahead of Wiedwald shouldn’t earn him any brownie points among Leeds fans.
