Leeds United got off to a winning start at the Macron Stadium.
Speaking to TV Yorkshire, Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen has revealed he wants to see more goals from midfield in comparison with last season.
Leeds got their Championship campaign underway with a hard-fought 3-2 win at Bolton Wanderers, with two-goal Kalvin Phillips the hero for the Whites yesterday.
The 21-year-old opened the scoring after just seven minutes, sweeping an Ezgjan Alioski short corner into the net via a deflection, while his second was a simple tap-in after good work from Chris Wood, who doubled United’s lead after 30 minutes.

But Phillips, a central midfielder, was in a very advanced position to tap home his second and Christiansen admits he did not expect that sort of goal from the Thorp Arch academy product.
Asked if he expected Phillips to score goals like that, Christiansen told TV Yorkshire: “No, no. The first one, we worked on that maybe I expect that, but not the second one.”
Phillips has already doubled his one-goal record of last season in 33 Championship appearances.
Kemar Roofe and Stuart Dallas, with three, were Leeds’ highest scoring wide players under Garry Monk last season, while Pablo Hernandez only added six.
And Christiansen suggested that he wants more goals from midfielders this time around.
“Last year we didn’t have so much goals from the midfielders, so today we started well,” added the 44-year-old.
