Gavin Whyte was said to be dreaming of a move to Leeds United in the summer.

Leeds United winger Stuart Dallas has praised Gavin Whyte in the Belfast Telegraph, just months after the winger almost signed at Elland Road.

The Belfast Telegraph previously reported how Whyte dreamt of signing for Leeds, and a deal was expected to go through this summer.

However, the links with Leeds went quiet, and he ended up signing for Oxford United instead.

Whyte has gone on to impress at League One level, and his form has earned him a place in the Northern Ireland squads recently.

Whyte now has four appearances for his country under his belt, and Leeds man Dallas has been impressed by the attacker’s showings.

“Gavin has done really well, to be fair to him, and it’s good to see,” Dallas said.

“He just needs to keep his head down and continue working hard and I’m sure he can go on to be a real star in this team.

“It’s good to see he has made that jump from the Irish League, similar to myself. He’s doing the business at Oxford and he has come into a really good group with Northern Ireland. We’ll take good care of him and make sure he keeps progressing.

“Gavin has a knack for scoring goals and he gets himself in good positions.

“He’s a good kid and he wants to continue to learn so he’s only going to get better.”

Whether Leeds would consider going back in for Whyte at a later date remains to be seen.

Whyte still has years on his side, and if he continues to impress, he is sure to attract admiring glances from higher placed teams in the future.
