Leeds United’s Souleymane Doukara would be uninspiring Rangers addition

Souleymane Doukara could leave Leeds United and Rangers have been identified as a potential destination.

A solid centre-back pairing? Check. An influential, goalscoring midfielder? Check. A talented centre-forward? Check.

Rangers may have won just one of their first three Scottish Premiership games this season but it’s difficult to argue against the fact that they have had an excellent transfer window, and the signings of Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso, Graham Dorrans and Alfredo Morelos are already looking inspired.

However, if there’s one glaring weakness in Rangers’ squad, it’s on the left wing. The decision to let Barrie McKay leave for Nottingham Forest looks increasingly baffling with the 22-year-old starring at the City Ground and Rangers proving unable to meet Hearts’ demands for Jamie Walker.

Jamie Walker of Heart of Midlothian controls the ball during the Ladbrokes Premiership match between Hearts and Celtic at Tynecastle Stadium on April 2, 2017 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

According to the Daily Record, there is no fourth bid in the pipeline for Walker, who netted 15 goals in all competitions last season and is valued at a not-unreasonable £1 million.

Perhaps this is why Bet Victor have installed Rangers as 4/1 second favourites to land Leeds United outcast Souleymane Doukara. The Senegalese attacker hasn’t featured in the Championship since Thomas Christiansen took over at Elland Road and, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, is likely to have a new home before the end of the transfer window.

Perspiration over Inspiration

Whether that is Ibrox remains to be seen. However, despite the fact Doukara was a regular in a Leeds side which came within a whisker of the play-offs last season, it’s difficult to shake the feeling that he would be a very uninspiring addition.

After all, Doukara is not a natural left-winger. He is a centre-forward by trade, and not a particularly prolific one at that, forced to drop back onto the flank due to a lack of options at Leeds’ disposal.

Furthermore, Saturday’s goalless home draw with Hearts suggests that Rangers need a player who can change the game from out wide. Doukara, with six goals and one assist in 34 league appearances last season, offers more perspiration than inspiration.
