Leeds United’s Souleymane Doukara has made an interesting claim about his contract.

The Senegalese’s deal was thought to expire at the end of June – as with those of Ross Turnbull or Charlie Taylor – leaving his future in doubt.

His recent revival, however – having become one of Garry Monk’s key impact players this season – had prompted a debate as to whether Doukara could be offered an extension at Elland Road.

But as far as Doukara is concerned, he is now set to remain a Leeds player until the end of next season.

“I still have one year,” the versatile forward told BBC Radio Leeds when asked about his future on Thursday.

Doukara has scored five goals and created another for for the Whites this campaign, despite many of his appearances coming off the bench.

He initially arrived at Leeds from Catania in 2014, as part of a wave of Italian-based signings. However, of those, only Gaetano Berardi, Marco Silvestri, Giuseppe Bellusci and the 25-year-old remain.

Bellusci is currently on loan at Empoli, however, and is not expected to feature in Monk’s plans for next season – the last of his four-year contract.

Does Doukara deserve to stay on at Leeds?
