Leeds United have a superb, and supremely confident, young midfielder on their books.
Leeds United had a night to remember on Tuesday when they overcame Norwich City on penalties to reach the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.
The Whites have kicked into gear under manager Garry Monk and on recent evidence the good times could be about to return to Elland Road.
Among those on show earlier this week was 18-year-old midfielder Ronaldo Vieira, who has enjoyed a meteoric rise, going from the Leeds academy to playing a key role for Monk and featuring 11 times so far this season.
Vieira’s performance against Norwich was superb, but it was his final contribution that shows just what a fine young player he is, as he converted the match-winning penalty in the shoot-out.
After more experienced players from both sides had fallen short from the spot Vieira stepped up and calmly finished, sending Leeds through to the last eight and proving categorically that he has the mentality to go with his undeniable talent.
Vieira has a very long way to go before he can be regarded as a true Elland Road great, but he is certainly heading in the right direction and few players would have been as calm in that moment.
So it is hats off to Vieira for showing his mettle and to Monk for taking a chance when so many managers would have deemed him too young.
