Back in October 2018, AS Argentina claimed of Leeds United’s interest in signing Juan Foyth from Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old central defender was struggling for playing time at Tottenham at the time, and it was reported that Leeds head coach Bielsa was very attentive to the situation of the Argentina international and was interested in bringing him on loan to Elland Road in January.

Leeds were in need of a centre-back at the time, and the Championship club could still do with defensive reinforcement now.

However, Foyth has got playing time since that report came out, and Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino’s latest comments on the youngster will extinguish all hopes of a loan move for Leeds.

Pochettino has suggested that he could include the youngster into his Champions League squad following the departure of midfielder Mousa Dembele this month.

“I think yes,” Pochettino told Football.London. “He deserves it. Yes. It was so painful for him to be out of the list when he was available to play.

“That is the worst thing. For me, it is the most painful situation. We cannot afford to do the same [again].”

Tottenham Hotspur stay

Foyth has made six appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham so far this season, scoring one goal in the process, according to WhoScored.

The Argentine still has a lot to learn and improve, and it seems that he will continue his football education at Tottenham, not under Bielsa at Leeds.
