Leeds United reportedly want to sign David Stockdale from Birmingham City in the summer transfer window.
According to The Mirror (Transfer Live blog, 13:53pm, Monday, July 9, 2018), Birmingham City have been placed under an embargo, and this may affect Leeds United’s reported pursuit of David Stockdale.
The Birmingham Mail has claimed that Birmingham manager Garry Monk has made Stockdale available for transfer this summer, with the same publication reporting of Leeds’s interest in the 32-year-old goalkeeper.
The Mirror (Transfer Live blog, 13:53pm, Monday, July 9, 2018) has reported that due to the transfer embargo, Monk may have to think about using Stockdale – along with four other players he wants to move on – in his first team.
This could mean that Leeds may miss out on Stockdale, even if the Whites increase their initial offer, with The Birmingham Mail claiming that the two clubs have not agreed on a transfer fee.
After all, if Monk cannot sign any players, then the former Leeds head coach may have to keep the ones he does not, even if someone like Stockdale who is unlikely to get much playing time at the Blues next season.
One solution could be that Birmingham and Stockdale could mutually terminate the contract of the goalkeeper.
This will allow the 32-year-old to sign for Leeds – or any club of his choosing – as a free agent, and will see Birmingham get his wages off their books.
