Leeds United’s pursuit of Kyle Bartley suffered a blow last month when his price-tag was revealed by The Mirror, but are their hopes of re-signing him effectively dead now?
Swansea City sanctioned a loan deal this week which will allow Jordi Amat join Real Betis, and such a move could have negative implications for United.
According to a report in the print edition of The Mirror on June 18, Swansea wanted £7.5 million for the centre-back, who had a superb loan stint at Elland Road last season.
Leaving out the financial aspect for a moment, Amat’s exit might suggest that the Premier League club plan on keeping him next season.
It is unlikely that Paul Clement would offload two senior centre-halves in the same transfer window, and Leeds, if they haven’t already, should move on to different targets.
Ideally, it would be great for the Yorkshire club to pair up Bartley with Pontus Jansson again next term, the duo being exceptional beside one another last season, but it is looking like a pie in the sky more and more each week.
Bartley’s performances last season suggest that he certainly deserves a chance to prosper in the Premier League.
