Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford uses Tottenham Hotspur to illustrate a point

Tottenham Hotspur are aiming to win the Premier League title, while Leeds United are challenging for automatic promotion from the Championship.

Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford has used Tottenham Hotspur as an example to make a point about the Championship title race, as quoted on Leeds Live.

Tottenham are third in the Premier League table at the moment with 57 points from 25 matches, five points behind leaders Manchester City and second-placed Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Leeds currently find themselves second in the Championship table, level on 57 points with leaders Norwich City and behind only on goal difference.

Bamford, who joined Leeds from Championship rivals Middlesbrough in the summer of 2018 for an initial transfer fee reported by Sky Sports to be worth £7 million, has used to Tottenham to illustrate his point that teams behind the Whites in the standings will be aiming to catch them.

“It’s quite a cliched saying, you’ve got to take each game as it comes, but if you asked the Tottenham [Hotspur] players in the Prem they would say they’re still in with a good chance and if you asked a number of teams in the Championship who are around fourth, fifth or sixth they’d probably say they’re in with a great chance of finishing in automatic places as well,” Bamford told Leeds Live when asked to compare the situations at the top of the Premier League and the Championship tables.

Promotion challenge

Leeds’s recent results and performances have not been great, and it is clear that the Whites need to bounce back.

Winning against Middlesbrough in the Championship this weekend will be tough, but picking up all three points against Tony Pulis’s side will send a strong message to the rest of the teams in the division.
