Patrick Bamford has revealed on the Leeds United Official Podcast that both him and Kalvin Phillips felt that Liverpool were there for the taking on Monday evening.

Leeds and Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw on Monday evening, as Marcelo Bielsa’s side picked up another credible result.

However, Bamford admits that there was frustration in their group at their failure to pick up the three points against Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Liverpool have been far from imperious this season, with the Reds sat in seventh place.

And Bamford says that him and Phillips were confidence of success against Liverpool before they took them on.

Whilst it’s the games where there is not that much pressure on because everyone expects Man City and Liverpool to win, I think before the game we put pressure on ourselves.

Against City, we felt like we could get something out of the game and the fact we won it in the way we did.

“I remember on the walk me and Kalvin were talking saying ‘I feel we can do these tonight, if we can get after them we can win this’,” the striker said.

“I think that was the feeling throughout the group.

“I was frustrated after the game that we hadn’t won. I felt coming off the pitch how have we not won that? I know first half they deserved it, but second half we really had them up against the wall.”

That change in attitude of opposition players may explain part of the reason why Liverpool haven’t been successful in defending their Premier League title.

When Klopp’s side were at their very best, oppositions team’s belief was almost extinguished before kick off.

But Liverpool’s vulnerability has been exposed this term and that has given sides belief they can be beaten.

Leeds are relentless anyway, and their second half display was certainly impressive.

It did take until the final minutes for Leeds to strike their equaliser though, with Diego Llorente eventually scoring from a corner to ensure the spoils were shared.
