Patrick Bamford has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that Leeds United fans haven’t seen the best of him yet.

Bamford reminded the Championship of his quality by scoring twice in a 2-0 win away to Preston North End last night, ending a four-match dry spell in the process.

In doing so, the 25-year-old hitman took his total for the season to nine goals in all competitions, though injury has limited him to only 20 appearances.

Leeds shelled out a cool £7 million to sign him from Middlesbrough last summer [The Daily Mail], and Bamford claims that there’s still a lot more to come from him.

He told The Yorkshire Evening Post: “Before the game I was on the phone to my dad and he said ‘do you know what? You haven’t had a game for Leeds where you can say it was your best.’

“Part of me was thinking ‘yeah dad, I have been injured for a fair chunk, come on’ but he was also right because to be honest, I don’t think the Leeds fans have seen the best of me. Even tonight, obviously I felt I played well but there’s more to come.”

It’s an exciting admission by Bamford but Leeds fans will be hoping to see him a lot closer to his best over the coming weeks.

In winning at Preston, Marcelo Bielsa’s side reclaimed the second automatic promotion spot, though Sheffield United can move back into second by winning at Birmingham City – who beat the Whites last weekend – tonight.

It’s going to be a close battle for runner-up but if Bamford is firing on all cylinders, Leeds have every chance of making it.
