Leeds United’s Oliver Sarkic continues to make the right kind of noises.
If Oliver Sarkic doesn’t want to be at Leeds United then he’s certainly going the wrong way about it.
The 20-year-old posted grabbed another goal for Leeds’ Under-23s today, reinforcing his status as one of the real gems in Carlos Corberan’s youth side.
With four goals in his last five games, Sarkic, who joined on loan from Benfica on deadline day, is clearly a step up above the rest at Under-23 level and you wonder whether head coach Thomas Christiansen should call him up to the senior squad shortly.
The Montenegrin striker is clearly a talent but his loan expires in January and it wouldn’t be a good look for Christiansen or Director of Football Victor Orta if he went on to fashion a good career elsewhere without being given so much as a sniff of senior football during his time in West Yorkshire.
Jay-Roy Grot, a year younger than Sarkic, has been given 137 minutes of Championship football this season by Christiansen – as well as 175 minutes in two Carabao Cup games – and the Dutchman has offered little evidence that he deserves the chances, having failed to score in 13 games now
Would Sarkic have gone a total of 312 minutes – the equivalent of three-and-a-half full games – without finding the net for United? Possibly, but four goals in five games for the Under-23s suggests he knows where the goal is and perhaps it’s time that Christiansen puts him on the bench.
Going by his goals and performances, he is very much enjoying his stint at Leeds and it’s about time he was rewarded.
