Mark Schwarzer says Ange Postecoglou would be an ‘exceptional’ fit for the Leeds United manager’s job, but he can’t see the Greek-born Australian leaving Scottish Premiership champions, Celtic.

The former Australia international added that Postecoglou is too loyal to the cause and he’s not someone who would just up and leave midway through the season.

Celtic are nine points clear of Glasgow rivals Rangers in the table, as Postecoglou is on course to bring yet another title to Paradise.

Steven Gerrard and Brendan Rodgers have proven before that the lure of the Premier League can be too good to turn down.

Even for someone like Rodgers, who had already tasted England’s top-flight with Swansea and Liverpool, but was insistent on leaving midway through the season for Leicester.

Whilst one Celtic boss took those actions, Schwarzer, who has worked under big Ange, doesn’t think the 57-year-old will be going down that same road, as he told The Football Show on Sky Sports (08/02/23 at 10:05 am).

“I think he would be an exceptional fit,” said Schwarzer. “But do I think he’s going to leave Celtic and go to Leeds United right now? I don’t think so.

“Not that I have spoken to him. I am completely speculating here. I don’t think he would leave Celtic, if he were to leave at all, at this particular moment in time.

“I think his relationship. His rapport with the club and the fans is too important to him. Also, the job he is doing at Celtic is phenomenal. If anything, it’s a little bit underrated for how good a job he is doing, considering where Celtic were and how far behind they were of Rangers only two seasons ago to where they are now, which is clearly the best side in Scotland.

“If Ange were to leave, then it would be during an off-season. It would be done amicably and done in the right manner because that’s how he does business.”

SCHWARZER IS RIGHT ABOUT POSTECOGLOU

It would be a big surprise if Postecoglou decided to head for the Glasgow exit door and accept any advances from the Yorkshire giants, at this moment in time.

Whilst Celtic fans won’t like to hear it, down the line, there’s no doubt that big Ange will be donning a dugout in the Premier League.

That’s where the money is, the best teams, the high-profile names and the best managers in the world.

But, for now, they get to enjoy the cool-mannered ways that is seeing him write his name into the legendary books of Celtic.
