The Leeds United midfielder has rarely been seen this season.

When Leeds United signed Mateusz Klich from FC Twente last summer it seemed they had snagged a bargain, but just a few months later the midfielder has barely featured and is making headlines for his Twitter exploits rather than his performances on the pitch.

Klich has had to make do with EFL Cup outings, where he helped Leeds reach the fourth round of the competition before losing to Leicester City last month, while his only Championship start to date came in the 3-1 defeat to Cardiff City.

It would be easy to look at the midfielder’s performance in that game and right him off but it is unfair to judge him on a single performance, especially when so many of his Leeds teammates have been picked week after week despite being well below par.

Klich was tasked with being the muscle against Cardiff, before Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen realised what fans had known from the start and recalled Ronaldo Vieira, and to complete the set of belatedly smart decisions he should start the pair together after the international break.

Leeds are lacking strength in key areas, and they continue to capitulate at an alarming rate, losing games they look set to win if only the whistle blew 10 minutes earlier.

Klich is an experienced player who deserves a shot ahead of either Eunan O’Kane or Kalvin Phillips, and while some Leeds fans have already written him off, he could still do a fine job for them if given the chance.
