Lewie Coyle had been excellent during his loan spell at Fleetwood Town from Leeds United prior to Saturday’s League One clash with Rochdale.

Talk about making a good first impression. Lewie Coyle could hardly have made a better start to life at Fleetwood Town after arriving from Leeds United on a season-long loan in the summer, winning the fan’s Man of the Match poll in four of his first eight League One appearances for The Cod Army.
Fleetwood have already launched the career of one Leeds youngster, giving Charlie Taylor the chance to impress and force his way into The Whites’ first-team plans after an excellent loan spell in 2013/14. And the early signs are that Coyle, a 22-year-old right-back, could follow in Taylor’s footsteps.

For the first time, however, the post-match discussion of the youngster’s display was not all positive following Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Rochdale at Highbury.
Coyle made his first major mistake in Fleetwood colours as his poor clearance fell straight to Dale’s Bradden Inman, who did not wait around to lash a finish through the legs of former Leeds goalkeeper Alex Cairns.
It turns out Coyle is human after all. Clearly, this is the sort of mistake the academy graduate needs to iron out of his game if he is to fight the ever-impressive Luke Ayling for a first-team berth at Elland Road the near future.

Though Coyle should obviously not be judged on the back of one mistake. After all, the defender has been hugely impressive at Fleetwood until then.
And, with Coyle telling the Fleetwood Weekly News that his parent club had been in touch in order to keep track of his progress, it’s clear that he has a future at Elland Road.
