Lee Erwin looks set to leave Leeds United this summer with a number of League One clubs interested – but a return to Motherwell could benefit all parties.
After two years and just 12 appearances, Lee Erwin’s miserable two year stint at Leeds United looks set to be brought to an end.
Though, after offering a reminder of his qualities with a 10-goal loan spell at Oldham Athletic last season, Erwin does not appear to be short of suitors. The report claims that a quintet of League One clubs, Charlton, MK Dons, Plymouth, Walsall and Oldham, are interested in landing the highly-rated striker this summer.
Chances have been few and far between for Erwin at Leeds
Though you wonder whether a return to where it all began would be the best idea, to help Erwin rediscover that golden touch that convinced Leeds to make their move in the summer of 2015. Motherwell may be in need of a new striker this summer, after all, with last season’s top scorer Louis Moult urging the club to let him go this summer.
Replacing the former Stoke City forward, who has netted 36 goals in two seasons at Fir Park, would not be a straightforward task.
Though with youth on his side and plenty of potential left in the tank despite a sapping spell at Elland Road, Erwin making the move back to Motherwell could suit all parties.
Prodigal son
He began his professional career at the club, after all, and was born in Bellshill, just two miles down the road. And his excellent breakthrough campaign in 2014/15 ensured Motherwell remained a top flight side after downing Rangers in the relegation play-off.
Therefore, he could thrive if given the chance to return home this summer. And with Motherwell facing a tough task keeping Moult at the club, Erwin’s homecoming could be the perfect tonic.
