Leeds United need more midfielders that can score goals.
It is no secret that Leeds United are lacking a goal-scoring midfielder, with the closest they had – Alex Mowatt – sold to Barnsley in January.
While Liam Bridcutt, Ronaldo Vieira, Eunan O’Kane and, to a lesser extent, Kalvin Phillips have all played their part this season, the lack of goals from central areas is alarming and has put added pressure on striker Chris Wood.
Thankfully for Leeds, the New Zealand international has been in blistering form, but the problem goes much deeper than the first-team.
Leeds’ under-23 side is struggling this season and their lack of a goal-scoring midfielder is apparent.
It could be argued that striker Malik Wilks and goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell are the only second-string players with a real shot of becoming first-team regulars further down the line, but whatever happens it is alarming that no one outside of the strikers is scoring even sporadically.
It is a problem Leeds boss Garry Monk will be keen to resolve sooner rather than later, with the summer transfer window allowing him to strengthen his senior options.
That said, he should also be looking at teenage prospects that can strengthen the under-23s and ultimately push for a starting berth at Elland Road.
