Leeds United hitman Pierre-Michel Lasogga could be set for an eye-opening winter period.

Winter is coming and so too is the chance for Leeds United attacker Kemar Roofe to prove that manager Thomas Christiansen does not need another striker in January.

It was reported by the Football Whispers section of ESPN that Leeds were interested in recruiting Liverpool marksman Danny Ings in the winter transfer window.

Such an addition would be another obstacle between Roofe and his favoured centre-forward role, with Pierre-Michel Lasogga owning the number nine shirt for now.

But the former Oxford United man is likely to get chances to impress during the hectic festive period and doing so could persuade Director of Football Victor Orta to stick with what he’s got.

Lasogga has looked a very decent signing after joining on a season-long loan from Hamburg, scoring three times in six Championship games, but the 25-year-old striker is unaccustomed to the rigourous schedule around Christmas which will see United play five games in a 15-day period.

Due to the winter break in Germany, Lasogga is used to having a month off around that time and it could be something of a culture shock for him.

Even if it does not faze him in the slightest, the German is likely to be rotated with Roofe – who has five goals from a number nine role this season – and the 24-year-old Englishman will be desperate to impress. Failing to would all but scupper his aspirations of being the club’s first-choice striker in the long term.
