Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has said that Kevin de Bruyne is the best player he has played against.
What’s the story?
Speaking to Gaffer, Phillips was asked to name the most difficult opponent that he had faced during his time in the Premier League.
And the Leeds enforcer took no time to respond. He said: “De Bruyne. He’s just strong, quick, fast. Can score goals. Very hard to tackle.”
It is hardly a rarity for De Bruyne to come up in these sort of discussions.
The City playmaker commands great respect amongst his peers and Phillips’ is the latest in a long list of his admirers.
Tough opponent
Phillips has actually coped better than most against De Bruyne too.
Leeds performed well against Pep Guardiola’s side last season, where they went unbeaten.

Leeds won with 10 men at the Etihad Stadium and held City to a 1-1 draw at Elland Road last term.
They are yet to meet this time around, although are due to face off against each other next month.
Phillips clearly will know the scale of the task at hand for him and his teammates.
But Leeds are under pressure to start picking up some points.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men have made a slow start to the new campaign and currently sit just above the relegation zone.
