Leicester City reportedly saw Ezgjan Alioski as a possible replacement for Riyad Mahrez – but the winger is yet to truly convince at Leeds.

It’s in a winger’s very nature to be inconsistent. Leeds United fans, however, will still be hoping that Ezgjan Alioski will be a little less erratic in the next few weeks.
Like the majority of Thomas Christiansen’s squad, the Macedonian winger had suffered an alarming drop of form in recent games – culminating in many fans asking for Alioski to be dropped ahead of Saturday’s Championship clash with Brentford.
And while the 25-year-old was arguably the pick of the bunch as Leeds lost for the sixth time in seven Championship games at Griffin Park, scoring only his second league goal of the season, his performance still left a lot to be desired.

There’s little doubting Alioski’s capabilities but his reliability and end product could clearly do with some work. On current form, therefore, it is hard to imagine the former Lugano winger coming anywhere close to replacing Riyad Mahrez at Leicester City.
The Leicester Mercury claimed at the start of the summer that Alioski’s fine form in Switzerland for Lugano, netting 16 goals last season, had The Foxes eyeing the bleached-blonde maverick as a potential replacement for 2016 PFA Player of the Year Mahrez.

The Algerian was forced to stay at the King Power this season after failing to secure a move away, however, and has returned to form in style in recent weeks. Mahrez is starting to influence games again and dazzled in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Stoke City.
Clearly, Alioski has a long way to go before he can match the exploits of a winger rated at £40 million, per the Daily Mail.
Mahrez is one of the most gifted and creative players in English football. Alioski, meanwhile, continues to divide Leeds supporters with many wondering whether he is even good enough for their starting XI right now.
