Souleymane Doukara scores his wonder goal against Forest
Whites striker Souleymane Doukara won the award for the Championship’s January goal of the month for his wonder strike against Nottingham Forest, and he sat down for an interview with Sky Sports, comparing his superb effort with Tony Yeboah’s famous strike for Leeds against Liverpool in 1995.
The 25-year-old moved to Elland Road from Catania in the summer of 2014, and has since gone on to make 78 appearances for the West Yorkshire outfit, scoring 15 goals during that time.
But it was his goal against Forest for which he will surely be remembered.
And Doukara spoke to Sky Sports about his memorable volley, responding to a question asking him if it was better than Yeboah’s strike 22 years ago:
Leeds’ Souleymane Doukara celebrates
“It was one of the best goals I’ve ever scored. I was very happy about it because it was a nice strike and I hope I score many more like it! Tony Yeboah’s was good as well, both goals are similar but I can’t say mine or his was better, it’s up for the fans to decide. Everyone has their own opinion.”
The Leeds striker will now be hoping to kick on, and improve his personal goal tally to help drive his side on to promotion to the Premier League.
He has scored just five goals in 22 Championship outings for Garry Monk’s men so far this season, but his physical presence up front for the Whites has definitely helped bring others into play, and his overall contribution to the team cannot be underestimated.
