Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford insists that he thinks Gareth Southgate is a very good manager, despite his omission from the England squad this week.
Speaking on the Leeds United Podcast, Bamford opened up about playing under Southgate previously.
The Leeds striker had combined with the England boss in his younger days, when he represented his country at under-21 level.
And Bamford said: “I know he is a good manager because I’ve worked with him at England under21’s, he was very man to man manager.
“He had good tactics, things like that. Maybe not to the extent Leeds press, but I know him and Steve Holland are very keen on the pressing game.”
Southgate did say that Bamford was very close to making his England squad, but the Leeds striker just couldn’t quite break through.
Southgate may feel that his decision was vindicated last night, as Ollie Watkins opened his scoring account on debut against San Marino.
Bamford is now making a real claim to go to the Euro’s though and if the Leeds striker can continue to hit the back of the net between now and the end of the season, his Three Lions’ bow cannot be too far away.
Bamford has 14 Premier League goals for Leeds this term, and his goalscoring has helped the Whites into 11th place in the table.
