Purver is the latest Whites youngster to commit at Elland Road.
Alex Purver is seeking a first team breakthrough at Leeds United after his one-year contract extension was confirmed on Thursday morning.
Purver, who is yet to play for the Whites at senior level, was a regular in the Under-21s last season, making 33 appearances and captaining the side on several occasions.
Since returning for pre-season earlier this month, the 20-year-old has trained with Garry Monk’s first team and is the latest young hopeful to agree fresh terms after Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Kalvin Phillips, Tyler Denton and Eoghan Stokes.
Another midfielder, Phillips (R), had previously agreed a new deal
And in an interview with Leeds’ official site Purver, who’s been at Thorp Arch since the age of six, made clear his intentions ahead of the coming campaign.
“I’m really pleased (to have signed), I’m really proud and I’m looking forward to the season ahead,” he told leedsunited.com. “During the off-season, I was working on my fitness and gym work to try and make sure that I come back and hit the ground running with the first team.
“I feel like I’ve done that and I just want to keep building towards the new season.
“I managed to play a lot of games last season (for the Under-21s) and I filled in for a lot of people, which shows versatility, but I’m hoping that I can really nail down the centre-midfield position this year and kick on to break into the first team.
“I’ve shown that I can play in a few different positions and cope there, but I definitely see myself as a centre-midfielder.”
Purver faces a battle to break into Leeds’ midfield, with reinforcements understood to be being sought in that department.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Whites have maintained an interest in last season’s loan star Liam Bridcutt, though another potential target, Leon Britton, is set to sign a new contract at Swansea City.
