Tyler Denton has only featured in four League Two games since moving to Port Vale on loan from Leeds United in the summer.
With Port Vale bottom of League Two following a run of six straight defeats, news that manager Michael Brown has been relieved of his duties has come as little surprise in the cut-throat nature of modern football.
The 40-year-old coach was only appointed on a full-time basis in May after taking caretaker charge in December but, in that time, The Valiants have been relegated from the third tier and now sit at the lowest possible point of the Football League. And it remains to be seen what the sacking of the former Leeds United midfielder means for another player with connections to Elland Road.
22-year-old left-back Tyler Denton joined Port Vale on a season-long loan deal in the summer but it is fair to say the move has not yet worked out how player or club would have hoped.
Denton made only his fourth league appearance in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Forest Green after being an unused sub in recent matches. Leeds would have hoped that the Dewsbury-born defender would get far more regular game-time in League Two having failed to make a single Championship appearance for The Whites in 2016/17.
And with Vale struggling for results, Denton’s miserable spell at Vale Park pales in comparison to fellow Leeds youngster Mallik Wilks’ electric start to life at League Two rivals Accrington Stanley.
However, with Vale now looking for their fourth manager in just three years, things may be looking up for Denton at last.
After all, Brown had not been won over by the former England Under-17 international, starting him in just half of Port Vale’s league fixtures. A new manager, however, promises to provide a clean slate and give Denton the chance to prove he deserves to be in the starting XI on a more regular basis.
