Leeds United’s Lewis Cook has withdrawn from the England under-19 squad.

Leeds United midfielder Lewis Cook has withdrawn from the England under-19 squad which was set to travel to Mexico next month.
The FA reported that Cook is one of two players to pull out injured, along with Chelsea defender Jake Carter-Salter.
No further description was provided of the details of Cook’s injury, other than that it is described as ‘minor’.

The news England are taking no chances is good news for Cook, with his withdrawal likely mainly a precaution.
19-year-old Cook is one of Leeds United’s key players and is highly coveted, with just one year remaining on his contract.

England were due to face Mexico in a double header in June 4 and 6, while they are also set to play in the under-19 European Championships in July.
Cook could yet play a part in the tournament in Germany, which would mean he would be absent for a crucial phase of Leeds United’s pre-season.
