Leeds United loanee Jay Roy Grot may consider himself fortunate to have retained his place in the Dutch youth set up.
Grot was named in the Netherlands under-20 squad which will face USA and Egypt over the next week, Leeds confirmed.
It’s a refreshing change of scene for Grot with his loan spell at VVV Venlo stalling.
Grot was loaned to the Eredivisie side in the summer after a difficult first season at Leeds where he scored only once after a £1.5 million move.
After promising signs in pre-season, Grot’s loan at Venlo has faded.
He scored twice and provided one assist in his first nine games once the season began.
Since mid-October, he has only one goal to his name.
The last month has been particularly tough going for the Dutchman.
Across the past four matches, Grot has played a combined 15 minutes.
There is no guarantee Grot gets game time for Netherlands’ under-20 side, but it at least breaks his season up.
With his confidence potentially sapping, it could be just what he needs.
