The 20-year-old forward is targeting his first senior opportunities in the Leeds first team this season.
Young Leeds United forward Eoghan Stokes has told LUTV that he is aiming to earn his first opportunities in the club’s first team this season with a view to cementing a place in the senior squad.
Stokes has impressed for the Whites academy sides in recent times but is yet to make his first-team debut for the club despite reportedly being on the verge of breaking into the squad at various times.
Former manager Steve Evans said earlier in 2016 that only injury had prevented the Republic of Ireland youth international from being handed a taste of first-team action.
Stokes was awarded a new one-year deal at Elland Road after finishing as the development squad’s joint-top goalscorer last term.
He has now turned his attentions towards impressing new boss Garry Monk, and admitted to LUTV whilst on the first team’s tour of Ireland that he is aiming to make his breakthrough in the coming campaign.
Stokes said: “I’m happy to have signed a new deal at the start of the year, and then [hopefully will] push on this year and come in with the first team for the whole pre-season. We’ll see where it goes from there.
“Hopefully [I can] just stay with the first team the whole time, try and get a few appearances and cement my place in the first team.”
Stokes has certainly got a good foundation to build upon, having been involved with first-team training throughout the entirety of pre-season so far under Monk.
He will be hoping to be given the opportunity to impress in either game against Shelbourne or Shamrock Rovers in the coming days.
