Leeds United are said to be interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion’s David Stockdale.
Garry Monk’s time at Leeds United so far has been hugely impressive, regardless of whether the Whites reach the play offs or not.
Leeds have been transformed from a side which had languished in mid-table in the Championship for far too long, into one which has a clear direction and purpose.
This season may end up in disappointment – with Leeds now looking likely to finish in seventh place.
However, Monk has still made remarkable progress, especially as there has to be some question marks over the amount of backing he has been given in the transfer window.
Leeds have brought in a number of players in the last two transfer windows – but they have hardly screamed ambition.
Monk’s best signings – Rob Green, Luke Ayling and Pontus Jansson – were not exactly in demand when Leeds made their move.
Indeed, Monk has largely been forced to look for bargains and loans during his time at Elland Road so far.
But, if the rumours are true that Leeds are attempting to sign David Stockdale (Daily Mirror), then it could be a sign that the Whites are finally starting to show some more ambition.
Stockdale has been the best goalkeeper outside the Premier League this term – and his arrival at Leeds would prove that Monk has big plans for next season.
Leeds are likely to have to fend of competition from clubs, even in the top flight, if they do make a move for Stockdale, but if they were able to bring in the stopper – it would be a signal that Leeds believe that next season may be the one where they go all out for promotion.
