Leeds United will wish they had Linus Wahlqvist in their ranks now

The Swedish international has been linked with Leeds since 2016, but remains in Sweden.

For some time now Leeds United have been linked with a move for Swedish international Linus Wahlqviist. It was reported by FotbolDirekt in September 2016 that Leeds were willing to pay around £900,000 to sign the talented defender in the summer.

Brighton and Valencia have also been linked with the player in the past, and he would have joined his Swedish compatriots Marcus Antonsson and Pontus Jansson at Elland Road.

But despite the interest from abroad, the 21-year-old is still at IFK Norrkoping in Sweden. So should Leeds be wishing they had Wahlqvist on their books?

The short answer, is yes.

The 21-year-old once again played in every game for his Swedish club last season and is now currently in pre-season ahead of the new campaign starting in April.

Leeds however will wish he was at Elland Road. The Swedish international would certainly have come in handy during their recent injury crisis, with his ability to play both right-back and centre-back a major plus for any potential buyer.

It is still a shock to see such a talented young defender playing in the Swedish league, but for now Wahlqvist has remained in his homeland.

No doubt, when the summer comes around, teams will be clamouring for his signature once again. Leeds should be joining queue for a player long-linked with Elland Road.
