Leeds United want Weston McKennie and the Juventus midfielder is understood to be interested in making the move to Elland Road.

Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reported on Monday that Leeds had made contact with Juventus over a potential deal to sign McKennie.

It was suggested that Leeds boss Jesse Marsch is a big fan of McKennie and wants to bring his fellow American to Elland Road.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has now offered some more information about McKennie’s situation.

Plettenberg notes that McKennie has been linked with Borussia Dortmund but the Bundesliga club won’t be signing him.

Plettenberg added that McKennie is open to joining Leeds, seemingly viewing the Whites as a good move if he is going to leave Juventus.

Juventus are seeking up to €40million (£35million) for McKennie, so the ball is now in Leeds’ court as they chase McKennie’s signature.

“He is a transfer target of Leeds and he is open to join Leeds,” said Plettenberg. “He’s open to make the next step and maybe you know, he has the same agency as Aaronson has, and Aaronson is a player of Leeds United, but we hear of a price tag of around €30million to €40million.”

“We had considered about Weston McKennie because he was linked to Dortmund, but we hear he has nothing to do with Dortmund but he is open to join another club – and maybe it’s Leeds,” he added.

Who is Leeds United target Weston McKennie?

McKennie was born in the United States but moved to Germany at a young age as his father was a United States Air Force officer.

The McKennie family headed back to the United States and FC Dallas took McKennie into their ranks from the age of 11.

McKennie spent seven years in the FC Dallas ranks before returning to Germany with a move to FC Schalke.

That’s where McKennie really put himself on the map, recording five goals in 91 games for the Bundesliga club.

A loan to Juventus in 2020 became permanent and McKennie has now turned out 65 times for the Italian giants, scoring eight times.

The 24-year-old has racked up 41 caps for the United States, finding the net nine times for his country.

Branded ‘relentless’ by former US Under-20’s coach Tab Ramos, McKennie is a real box-to-box midfielder and can provide even more energy to this Leeds team.

Marsch would seemingly love to sign his compatriot and it seems that McKennie himself is interested in a late move to West Yorkshire too.
