Leeds United cannot rely on Izzy Brown.
Leeds United’s relaxed approach to transfers in January could have to change.
Marcelo Bielsa said earlier this month he did not intend to use the January transfer window to strengthen, The Telegraph reported.
That was before Samu Saiz left Leeds on loan for Getafe (via BBC).
Leeds’ willingness to accept Saiz’s departure was partly because they already had a direct replacement at the club, having signed injured attacker Izzy Brown, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported.
Yesterday Leeds got a real shock, as hours before Saiz’s departure became official, Brown limped off during an under-23 game with injury.
Brown’s injury was late downplayed, with the YEP reporting it was a hamstring concern rather than a recurrence of his long-term knee problem.
It highlighted how Leeds cannot afford to rely on Brown, and must have him as their bonus option, rather than put pressure on him to replace Saiz.
The injury scare was a warning. Will Brown last the season?
Will he hold up to regular Championship football?
Leeds must rip up their plans to sit back, and become active players in the January transfer window.
They can help themselves out and assist Izzy Brown at the same time.
Simply hoping the Chelsea loanee can stay fit and replace Saiz on a weekly basis is the wrong move.
