Leeds United want Valentin Castellanos but are also eyeing a deal for another mystery MLS player this summer.

The Whites have enjoyed a very productive start to the summer transfer window.

Playmaker Brenden Aaronson and right back Rasmus Kristensen have both arrived from Red Bull Salzburg.

Both players have worked with Jesse Marsch before and should bolster Leeds in key areas ahead of the new season.

More signings will be needed though after a battle with relegation and Marsch could now look to his native America.

Leeds United want Valentin Castellanos

90Min report that Leeds are showing the most interest of any Premier League club in New York City FC star Castellanos.

West Ham United, Newcastle United and Everton have also been eyeing Castellanos but it’s Leeds who are the most likely destination.

NYCFC have yet to receive a suitable offer though, meaning Leeds do risk missing out on the Argentinian striker.

Castellanos helped NYCFC to MLS Cup glory last season whilst scoring 23 goals in 36 games across all competitions.

The 23-year-old already has 11 goals and five assists in 17 games this term for NYCFC and looks primed for a big move.

That could be to Leeds, but the Whites have another mystery signing in mind.

That 90Min report claims that Leeds want to sign another American-based player alongside Castellanos.

Their identity hasn’t been revealed, so just who could Leeds be looking at this summer?

Portland Timbers left back Claudio Bravo could be competition for Junior Firpo at left back, as could Philadelphia Union star Kai Wagner – a player Leeds allegedly fancy.

If Leeds wanted to look for a talent of the future then San Jose Earthquakes winger Cade Cowell looks a hugely exciting prospect.

We would guess that the player in question is Wagner given the already-established rumours about him and Firpo’s disappointing season last term.
