Former Leeds United manager Steve Evans believes it would be ‘foolish’ if the Premier League strugglers were not considering a move for Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, speaking to the Scottish Sun.
If the last few years have taught us anything, it’s that the right managerial appointment can transform the entire direction of a football club.
Manchester United were on the bones of their backside when Erik ten Hag inherited a wreckage during the summer of 2022. Flash forward to early February, and United are producing their best and most consistent performances since the Sir Alex Ferguson heyday. Ninety Wembley minutes away from ending their long trophy drought.
Their opponents in the EFL Cup final will be Newcastle United; relegation favourites a year ago, Champions League chasers now under Eddie Howe.

Postecoglou, meanwhile, not only marked his debut Celtic season with a Premiership title – snatching the crown back from Rangers’ head – the straight-talking Aussie also rebuilt a tired, mishmash squad almost overnight, while instilling a coherent, modern style of play a world away from (shudder) ‘Lennon-ball’.
Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou could be a candidate for Leeds United
“From a Leeds United point of view, you must be considering Ange,” says Evans, the Celtic-mad Scot who spent 2015/16 at Elland road.
“If you’ve a list of four names, he surely has to be one of them. He’s got vast experience, his management style is impressive. I’ve no doubt the people at Leeds will be looking at him.
“Leeds would be very foolish not to be considering him.”
Four years ago, Brendan Rodgers left Celtic in the lurch in favour of a new challenge at Leicester City. There is a quiet confidence, however, that a man of Postecoglou’s principles is unlikely to do the same.
“I think he’ll eventually work in the Premier League,” Evans adds, insisting that the former Australia boss can afford aim higher than a historic but relegation-threatened club.
“Although I don’t see it being now, and I don’t see it being for Leeds United. I’d imagine, deep down, Ange will aspire to manage in the Premier League. It’s where the elite work.
“Why not Liverpool? Jurgen Klopp’s a long way from leaving Anfield. But if he did, why wouldn’t they want Ange?
“He’s doing a fantastic job. But I also feel he’s only about 25 per cent through his job at Celtic.”
Carlos Corberan, the early frontrunner to replace Jesse Marsch at Leeds United, has committed his future to West Brom. The Spaniard signed a new deal at the Hawthorns on Tuesday night. Andoni Iraola, meanwhile, is in the midst of a European push at Rayo Vallecano.
