‘He’s not going to’: Leeds United told Ange Postecoglou will not join them now

Leeds United have been told to forget about appointing Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou as a replacement for Jesse Marsch.

That’s the verdict of pundit Thomas Sorensen, who was a Premier League regular with Sunderland, Aston Villa and Stoke City.

The Dane is a popular pundit over in Australia having finished up his career with Melbourne City.

Sorensen has been speaking on GegenPod over in Australia and talked about the future of Celtic’s Australian boss Ange Postecoglou.

Tuttomercatoweb reported last week that the Celtic chief was one of the main options to become the next Leeds manager following the sacking of Marsch.

Sorensen thinks Leeds have no chance though, believing that Postecoglou is not going to join the Whites right now.

Postecoglou is in no rush to leave Celtic and departing for a relegation battle at Leeds doesn’t seem very likely.

Sorensen does feel that Postecoglou is ‘ideal’ for the Leeds job but a deal won’t happen – and that leaves Leeds in a difficult situation after parting ways with Marsch.

“It’s a really tough situation,” said Sorensen. “Obviously the interim manager is going to get a shot now to potentially get them back on track. We talked about Postecoglou, he would be an ideal replacement but he’s not going to come. Let’s hope it doesn’t come back and bite them, that this decision turned out to be the totally wrong one and they should have kept Jesse Marsch,” he added.

It will take something special to land Leeds United target Ange Postecoglou

Many were surprised when Celtic landed Postecoglou as their new manager in 2021, luring him away from Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan.

Fast forward just over 18 months and Postecoglou is one of the hottest managers around.

The Australian guided Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title last season and is on course for another one this term.

That isn’t anything special in itself but the brand of football Celtic have been playing is truly exceptional.

Postecoglou will only leave Celtic for a special opportunity and whilst Leeds are a huge club, a relegation battle isn’t going to tempt him away.

It may take something like Tottenham Hotspur going for Postecoglou as a replacement for Antonio Conte to really lure him from Celtic.

Other opportunities like Brighton and Hove Albion, Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers haven’t appealed and Leeds will likely fall into the same boat, with Celtic unlikely to worry about losing their prized manager any time soon.
