Free agent Patrick Erras has joined Werder Bremen on a free transfer – meaning he has snubbed a move to Leeds United.

Fussball Transfers claimed earlier today that Erras signed a three-year deal with Bremen on Wednesday night, with only confirmation needed on the deal.

That announcement has now arrived, with Bremen confirming at around 3pm UK time that Erras has joined them.

Fussball Transfers note that many teams in England knocked on Erras’s door, but Bremen made an ‘intensive effort’ and have now won the race.

The 6ft 5in midfielder was a free agent having left Nurnberg, and it looked like a move to England could be on the cards.

The Daily Mail reported in June that Erras was in talks with Leeds United, as Victor Orta looked to bring the German to Elland Road.

A giant figure who can play at centre back or in holding midfield, Erras could have provided Leeds with valuable depth in the Premier League.

Instead of heading to England’s top flight, Erras will now play in the Bundesliga – and leave Leeds to look elsewhere.
