Leeds United have been linked with the Morocco international.
Reported Leeds United target Mimoun Mahi has told RTV Noord that he is open to the idea of leaving FC Groningen this month, but claims that a departure isn’t essential for him.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reported last month that the one-time Morocco international is on a shortlist of names who Director of Football Victor Orta wants at Elland Road.
The 23-year-old winger has a £2 million buyout clause, according to The Sun.
Mahi, who plans on going to the World Cup this summer, has previously expressed an interest in leaving the Eredivisie side this month.
But the former Netherlands Under-21 international admits to having “doubts” and believes the wrong move could jeopardise his chances of going to Russia, though didn’t close the door on the possibility of joining Leeds or any other side this month.
“That is why I also have doubts. The next six months are super important. I have to play a lot, be important and do my thing,” he told RTV Noord.
“It would be bitter and a sin if I miss the World Cup. It has been a dream since I was a boy. On the other hand, if the right club come, I am certainly open to it.”
Mahi, who can play on both wings, has netted six goals in 13 league starts this season, and his contract runs out in 18 months.
