The Sun reported on Tuesday that Leeds United were interested in signing Manchester United striker James Wilson on loan in January.

Leeds have an abundance of strikers in the squad but Pierre-Michel Lasogga, seemingly their best one, has managed one goal in his last six games.

The Whites need a bit of extra firepower in their ranks after losing the last three Championship games and Director of Football Victor Orta appears to have identified the Red Devils youngster as a potential signing this winter.

Wilson exploded on to the scene back in 2014 by scoring twice in a 3-1 win over Hull City at Old Trafford under caretaker boss Ryan Giggs.

The 21-year-old, who had a spell at Derby last season but failed to score in four games, has only started two Premier League matches since that and has made only two competitive appearances under Jose Mourinho – both last season.

But Giggs is a big fan of the young forward it seems and his comments about him back in 2014 suggest as much.

“He’s a goalscorer – a natural goalscorer; but he’s got more to his game than just that,” the Welshman told The Mirror back in 2014.

“He can turn and run and he’s a very clever player. I was delighted for him that he got two goals and I think he wanted to stay on for his hat-trick when I took him off.

“We got the young lads in to train with us and they never looked out of place. I wanted to freshen things up from Saturday and they never let us down. James Wilson is not just a finisher, his all-round play is very good and he is exciting.”
