How Leeds United forward Pierre-Michel Lasogga compares to Middlesbrough’s Britt Assombalonga.

This season Middlesbrough splashed out £15 million to sign Britt Assombalonga from Nottingham Forest as they made a real statement of their intention to win promotion.

Leeds United meanwhile lost their top scorer Chris Wood for £15 million to Premier League side Burnley.

Impressively they have managed to replace him with a loan striker who is even outperforming Assombalonga.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga has scored three goals to Assombalonga’s five – but crucially he has played in six fewer games.

A more detailed look at the two players’ performances shows it is Hamburg loanee Lasogga who has been more impressive.

Lasogga has attempted more shots per game, creates more chances per game, and wins more aerial duels per game than Assombalonga.

Even if he were narrowly lagging behind the £15 million Middlesbrough man it would be impressive, but the fact he is outplaying his Championship rival makes Leeds United’s deal look even more of a coup.

The big challenge for Lasogga is to now keep this up over the course of the season.

Leeds currently sit in a lofty fifth compared to Middlesbrough’s 11th, and should be delighted with the business they have been able to do so far.
