Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford got injured in September.
Bamford injured his knee in an under-23 game for Leeds in early September.
He is not expected back until January.
Bamford said that he feared the setback was even more severe.
The former Middlesbrough and Chelsea striker said: “The injury happened on the Friday and I went to see the specialist on the Monday, but the whole weekend I thought I’d need an operation and be out for six to nine months.
“When I found out it would only be four months, rather than nine, it was a big weight off my shoulders and everything has been positive from there.
“You should have seen how happy I was to be back running around the field again and simple things like that are really good.”
It certainly sounds like Bamford got lucky, as he added that Leeds’ physio said this specific knee injury was a rare occurence for a footballer.
He explained: “Speaking to the physio after, it is a rare thing to happen in football, it is usually an injury you would get in a car crash. It was a freak incident.”
Leeds paid £7 million to sign Bamford in the summer, the most money the club have spent on a player in more than a decade.
It certainly has not been the best start for him, but Bamford is likely to play a crucial role for Leeds in the second half of the seasaon.
