The Romanian has worked with Pep Clotet in the past.

Leeds United are again being linked with a move for Romanian international Alexandru Maxim, despite Garry Monk having left the club.
Monk wanted the VfB Stuttgart attacker whilst he was boss at Swansea City and earlier this year Maxim’s agent confirmed to Stuttgarter Nachrichten that the Yorkshire club were keen on the player. The Yorkshire Evening Post then reported that Monk looked at the player last summer.

But he was also well known to assistant Pep Clotet, who worked with him at Espanyol B and he is hoping to stick around at Elland Road, which might explain the continued links.
It is reported by Lattenkreutz that Leeds, Mainz and an unnamed Chinese side are all keen on the player. He is quoted as saying:

“I can not say anything (about my future). I’ll travel to Romania and go to the wedding of a friend. After that, we will continue to see.”

He struggled to get in the Stuttgart team earlier this season but went on to play a pivotal role in their promotion to the German top-flight with some impressive late season performances.
Leeds United fans have heard all this before when it comes to Maxim however and will be wary of getting excited that the player may end up at Elland Road.
