Leeds’ Pontus Jansson celebrates scoring their first goal
Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson, despite being dropped to the bench for the recent win against Brighton, has been a runaway success at Elland Road this season.
The Swedish star has put in a string of fine performances that have seen him named in the Championship team of the season.
It has also seen him earn back a place among the Swedish international set-up.
But it is not a simple task breaking into the Sweden starting XI. They have two brilliant centre-back options in the form of captain Andreas Granqvist and Benfica talent Victor Lindelof.
Speaking to Sydsvenskan he mentioned how he will be pushing the players all the way, as he looks to add to his 10 caps with the Swedish national team:
“It’s tough with ‘Granen’ (Granqvist) and ‘Vigge’ (Lindelof) both doing well. I wage war on and is prepared as soon as there is a chance. Just to be on the Swedish national team is an honour for me and if I do not play myself, I will push the other so that we win.
“My time will come.”

Not only does Jansson seemingly have a fight on in the international field it seems he might have a battle on with Leeds as well.
For whatever reason Liam Cooper took his place ahead of the Brighton clash and performed well, so Jansson will need to fight hard to get back into the starting XI at Elland Road.
But his form and personality so far has shown him capable of a fight and Leeds fans will hope when he does return to the fold he will be even better than he has all season for the club.
