Leeds United ace is trying to be positive.
Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw is attempting to be positive about the club’s failure to win automatic promotion.
Norwich City and Sheffield United clinched promotion a last week, leaving Leeds to have to go up through the play-offs.
The real damage was done a week earlier, when Leeds lost twice over Easter, putting the automatic spots out of their hands.
Forshaw told the club website that the timing of Leeds losing out on promotion could work to their advantage, having had time to adjust to the reality of their situation.
He said: “We’re disappointed we’re not hiding from that, but we’ve got a massive opportunity.
“The last two games were a good chance for us to rebuild confidence and momentum and I think we done that on Sunday. It stands us in good stead now for the play-offs
“In hindsight it could be a good thing that its happened early than on the last day, to give us time to get our heads around it and come out firing.
“We’re looking forward to the game on Sunday, hopefully its a positive result and we go into the semi-finals flying.”
Leeds travel to Ipswich Town at the weekend, a game they hoped would be a promotion celebration.
Instead it is a dead rubber, with Ipswich already relegated and Leeds spot in third secure.
It’s a chance for Marcelo Bielsa to rest some players and experiment, but as Forshaw points out, winning and building momentum is important, having gone three matches without victory.
