Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers is a reported summer transfer target for Championship giants Leeds United.
The goalkeeping situation at Leeds United was an interesting one last season. Bailey-Peacock Farrell started the season in between the sticks, with former Real Madrid player Kiko Casilla ending the season in an error-prone fashion.
The Sun have reported that Championship side Leeds and recently promoted Norwich City are keen on Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers, who is expected to be rewarded with a long and improved deal.
At 20-year-old, Travers is yet to establish himself anywhere as the Irishman is just breaking through the senior ranks having spent time in Bournemouth’s academy.
Therefore, signing him would be utterly baffling, because Leeds would be better off building the career of Bailey Peacock-Farrell rather than Travers, who would only end up moving back to Bournemouth after one season.
If another youngster, who is less proven and experienced than Peacock-Farrell in terms of games, were to push ahead of him in the pecking order at Elland Road than it would be soul destroying for the player.
It is likely that Casilla will take the gloves for next season but after an indifferent campaign last term, Peackock-Farrell deserves the chance to prove himself again.
The mistakes that were made by Casilla towards the back end of the recently concluded campaign were costly, especially his performance in the play-off semi-final defeat to Derby.
The fact that a keeper of such experience struggled in that manner proves how difficult it is to perform under the Elland Road pressure.
Therefore, Peackock-Farrell deserves some leeway if reports about Travers are true because it would be understandable and ruthless if he were to lose his spot in the squad to a more experienced and proven player, but it would be slightly unfair if he lost it to a player of Travers’ position.
