James Milner currently appears to be off the radar for Leeds United, with Liverpool boss determined to keep hold of him.

One move the Whites should consider instead is to take a punt on a young player who Steven Gerrard compared to the Liverpool star.

Norwegian youngster Edvard Tagseth is set to be released this summer, the Liverpool Echo report.

Leeds should take a low risk punt on adding him to their under-23 squad.

Steven Gerrard managed him for the club’s under-18s before landing the Rangers job.

He told The Liverpool Echo: “I can trust him. If I asked Eddie to play in goal he’d do a good job.

“He’s that type of person, he’s in the James Milner mould. He’s left footed but you could play him right back or right wing if you wanted.

“Eddie does exactly what it says on the tin, he’s one of those players. I love having him, love coaching him, and he’s got a big future.”

Injury has hampered Tagseth’s progress and the 18-year-old moving on may now be for the best, to get a fresh start.

Of course Gerrard could look to bring the midfielder to Rangers, but Leeds should consider a move themselves.

Versatility is one of the key traits manager Marcelo Bielsa looks for, with hard work the other. Tagseth fits the bill in both regards, and the Milner tag would endear him to fans.

It’d be a smart move for Leeds to bring him into their under-23s and give him a chance to prove his fitness and quality.
