Should Leeds United consider challenging Liverpool to re-sign the Southampton star?

Liverpool reportedly want Alex McCarthy, but Leeds United should challenge.
The Daily Star reported this morning that Liverpool are keen on the Southampton goalkeeper, who once had a loan spell at Elland Road.
But he turns 30 this year and although the prospect of joining the newly-crowned European champions will excite him, he might just consider a permanent move to Leeds if they came knocking.
Realistically, he isn’t going to play ahead of Alisson at Anfield, but he might play ahead of Kiko Casilla who, if rumours are believed, might not even be with United next term.
The Sun reported last month [26/05/2019] that Leeds were interested in signing a replacement for Casilla, whose error in the playoff semi-final defeat by Derby County contributed to the Whites’ failure to win promotion.
If the Spaniard is leaving, Marcelo Bielsa will need a top-quality replacement and what a stunning option McCarthy would be.
Is he attainable? Probably, having fallen out of favour at Southampton last season.
If he wants to warm the bench for Europe’s best team then a move to Liverpool is a no-brainer, but if he wants to play football then Leeds should give him that chance.
McCarthy, who joined the Saints for £4.7 million from Crystal Palace in 2016 [Transfermarkt], earns around £40,000 per week at St Mary’s, according to Silly Season.
